From the 9th to the 12th of September, 2024, the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN hosted Tom Temming, a social worker, sign language and deafblind interpreter, PhD student, and professor at the Faculty of Angewandte Sprachen und Interkulturelle Kommunikation in Zwickau, Germany. During his visit, he delivered a lecture to both the staff and, in particular, the users of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. Both sessions were held in a hybrid format (in-person and via Zoom).
Tom Temming, an esteemed expert in the field of deafblindness, visited DLAN to share and exchange knowledge, experiences, and to network and strengthen professional relationships. With 27 years of experience working with deafblind individuals, he provided valuable insights into the deafblindness sector, specifically how interpreting for people with deafblindness is regulated in the UK and Germany.
Through his lectures, as well as numerous discussions and meetings, we gained a deeper understanding of how deafblindness is managed in Germany.
We extend our sincere thanks to Tom Temming for the knowledge and invaluable experience he shared with us.
