Dr. Sanja Tarczay, President of the World Federation of the Deafblind (WFDB), said at a round table with representatives of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia at the premises of the Municipality of Ljubljana on the 25th of November 2022, with the aim of regulating the status and rights of people with deafblindness as soon as possible, that the WFDB is focused on to alleviating the problems of people with deafblindness all around the world and is committed to providing them support in the form of deafblind language interpreters. “Our first motto is: nothing about the deafblind without the deafblind, and our second motto is: no one should be left behind,” emphasised Ms. Tarczay.

The World Federation of the Deafblind includes 72 countries, Slovenia joined in 2009, 8 years after the WFDB was founded. “This means that DLAN association’s work is recognised at a global level. Slovenia is part of the global deafblind movement and I am proud that it is the only country in the world that has entered the language of the deafblind into its Constitution. I sincerely hope that this registration will not remain a dead letter on paper,” she said, emphasising that she believes Slovenia will regulate the rights of people with deafblindness by law. As a token of support, she handed over a public letter from the World Federation of the Deafblind to the General Secretary of the Association DLAN, Dr. Simona Gerenčer.
