CHARITY EVENT: DEAFBLINDNESS AMONG US – TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER
The charity event, “Deafblindness Among Us – Together We Are Stronger,” took place on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Pogačar Square in Ljubljana. This event was organized by the Rotary Club of Ljubljana – Barje in collaboration with the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. Its primary objective was to raise awareness among the general public about deafblindness and advocate for essential legislative regulations in the field.
Under the inspiring slogan “Together We Are Stronger,” the event brought together renowned musicians, speakers, and individuals with deafblindness. These remarkable individuals demonstrated that, with appropriate individual support and assistance, they can be active and creative members of society.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković, for his honorary patronage of the event. We also acknowledge the contributions of various participants, including Daniel Popović, Sam’s Fever, Božidar Wolfand Wolf band, majorettes Trebnje, Dunja Vrhovnik, Marjan Zgonc, Klavdija & Polonca, Duo Melodica, Alen Kofol, Mirjana Šernek, Vesna Marinko, and the individuals with deafblindness who shared their experiences. We express our deep appreciation to these musicians and performers who made this day truly unforgettable.
Furthermore, we would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Robert Golob, Mayor Zoran Janković, Dr. Iztok Seljak, Director of Hidria Holding and a great supporter of the deafblind community, Mrs. Tina Gaber, honorary ambassador and promoter of the rights of the deafblind, Mrs. Vlasta Nussdorfer, President of the Program of the Council of the Festival for the Third Life Period, Dr. Milan Brglez, MEP, M.Sc. Mateja Toman, President of NSIOS, Mr. Miha Lobnik, Advocate of the principle of equality in the Republic of Slovenia, and Tanja Šubelj for their valuable contributions.
We would also like to express our gratitude to the dedicated team at the Count and Countess from the Dvor, Preddvor castle, as well as the hardworking volunteers at DLAN, our employees, all Rotarians, and the dear supporters and friends of the DLAN Association.
Together, we have made a significant impact in raising awareness about deafblindness and advocating for the rights of individuals with deafblindness. We are grateful for the collective effort in making this charity event a resounding success.
