V tednu Helen Keller (1880-1968), je v soboto 28. junija 2008 potekalo prvo mednarodno srečanje članic in članov Društva gluhoslepih Slovenije »Dlan« in Društva gluhoslepih »DODIR« iz Hrvaške (Hrvatska Udruga gluhoslijepih osoba – DODIR). Prijatelji iz hrvaškega društva DODIR so obenem praznovali 15-letnico svojega delovanja. Pomembnima dogodkoma za praznovanje se je pridružilo še veselje članic in članov društva Dlan, saj je naše društvo 28. aprila 2008 postalo polnopravni član Evropske zveze gluhoslepih EDbU. Srečanje je bilo tako predvsem namenjeno podelitvi veselja med članicami in člani obeh društev ter poglabljanju dobrih odnosov in sodelovanja med obema društvoma.
Društvo Dlan je ob vsej tej priložnosti obiskalo 31 članic in članov društva DODIR iz Hrvaške, vključno z njihovo predsednico Sanjo Tarczay. Imenovana je poudarila pomen mednarodne podpore in poglobljenega sodelovanja med obema društvoma. Kratkega uradnega dela in sprejema prijateljev so se udeležili tudi nekateri pomembni državni predstavniki. Iz Urada predsednika RS nam je poleg pozdrava izrekel nekaj misli gospod mag. Franc Hočevar, iz Ministrstva za delo, družino in socialne zadeve nas je pozdravila gospa Barbara Videmšek, iz Mestne Občine Ljubljana pa višja svetovalka gospa Alenka Žagar. Vsi gostje so poleg toplih pozdravov zaželeli še uspešno nadaljnje delo društvu Dlan. Po uradnem pozdravu je sledil program ogleda živali v Živalskem vrtu, kjer so za nas posebej pripravili brezplačen ogled živali od blizu, z možnostjo dotika le-teh. Ogled je potekal pod strokovnim vodstvom iz živalskega vrta. Ta dogodek je bil za nas osebe z gluhoslepoto posebnega pomena, saj jih velika večina pozna živali le iz slik ali pa te možnosti sploh nismo imeli doslej v življenju. Stik z živali preko dotika pa je za nas pomenilo novo doživetje, ki je hkrati tudi nepozabno. Po ogledu Živalskega vrta smo se članice in člani obeh društev sprehodili po starem mestnem jedru Ljubljane, kjer smo po naključju srečali še župana gospoda Zorana Jankoviča, ki je prijazno poklepetal z nami. To je naredilo še posebej dober vtis na članice in člane obeh društev. S posebnim navdušenjem je župana pozdravila predsednica društva gospa Sanja Tarczay, ki je srečanje z županom označila kot neobičajen dogodek. Srečanje smo sklenili z okusnim kosilom v Gostilni »Micka«, ki je bilo obogateno s prijetnim klepetom in izmenjavi izkušenj v prijetnem vzdušju.
